SAP Stock Room Management in S/4HANA
... formerly known as SAP Warehouse Management / SAP WM
SAP S/4HANA Stock Room Management: new name, less functionality
In the year 2020, SAP announced continued support in S/4HANA for classic SAP WM under the new name Stock Room Management.
However, SAP S/4HANA Stock Room Management is not just a lifetime extension of SAP WM. Some components of the classic SAP Warehouse Management will not be supported anymore in Stock Room Management and may not be used from 2026 onwards. These components are:
- WM-TRM: Task & Resource Management
- WM-LSR: Warehouse Control Unit Interface
- WM-VAS: Value Added Service
- WM-YM: Yard Management
- WM-CD: Cross-Docking
- WM-TFM-CP: Wave Management
- WM-DWM: Decentral WM
All other components of SAP WM will still be supported; this includes LE-MOB as a mobile work environment.
Companies using one or multiple of the components of SAP WM which won't be supported in SAP Stock Room Management should consider a migration to SAP EWM until 2026.
FAQ: What are the implications of Stock Room Management for companies that are using SAP WM?
To check if you are using features of SAP WM that won't be a part of SAP Stock Room Management, the report STOCKROOM_COMPLIANCE_CHECK was provided by SAP. It was delivered with note 2882809 The installation of the report is also possible in SAP ERP. Therefore, you can do this check before migrating to SAP S/4HANA.
There is no migration from a technical point of view, but you have to make sure not to use any of the unsupported functionality past 2025. SAP Stock Room Management is not a new warehouse management software, but is based on the same technical objects as the classic SAP WM.
Generally, it can be assumed that customer-specific developments are still working in Stock Room Management. However, when migrating from SAP ERP to SAP S/4HANA (e.g. in the context of a brownfield migration or technical conversion), it has to be checked if the developments are compatible with SAP S/4HANA. You can do this with the SAP Simplification List. Also, technical aspects like the extension of the material number (18 digits vs. 40 digits) have to be considered.
SAP Stock Room Management is suitable first and foremost for companies that have already been using SAP WM, do not need any additional functionality of SAP EWM and do not use any of the non-supported functions of SAP WM. As a simple warehouse management solution and as an alternative to SAP WM, Embedded EWM Basic is already included in the SAP S/4HANA license.
Stock Room Management is also an option for companies that want to focus on the transformation from SAP ERP to SAP S/4HANA first and plan to implement SAP EWM later.
Which warehouse management solution in SAP S/4HANA is the most suitable for your company, should be decided individually for your company based on the process requirements and their context.
It should not be expected that SAP invests in future development of Stock Room Management. The strategic warehouse management solution is SAP Extended Warehouse Management.
